While doing an assignment I learned alot of things about the people living in the world, things I had never known. For example the most common language in the world is Mandarin Chinese. I’m guessing this is the result of the booming Chinese population. The amount of illiterate adults in the world is 771 million and of that number two-thirds are women. This was shocking to me because I presumed men would be the majority but I guess in regions of the world where woman are not treated as equally with men, this percentage makes sense. Also women are less likely to receive secondary education compared to males. It surprised me that majority of the world is under extreme living conditions and poverty. Learning this I think we should appreciate living in America because we are an exception to the rest the world. As the economies are still struggling I would expect the percentage of people living in poverty (60%) to rise. I feel as a world community we should try to prevent this from happening. We should come together, especially since global warming is becoming an increasingly big problem.
